The rise of Artificial Intelligence and Automation is not just a fancy term thrown around in sci-fi movies. It’s here, and it’s real. Now, before you let out a big sigh, this doesn’t necessarily spell doom and gloom for us coders. Instead, it’s an exciting opportunity!

Remember when we moved from assembly languages to high-level programming languages? Was it the end of coding? Nope. We simply adapted. We created new and better applications. Similarly, with AI, we won’t be replaced; we’ll simply need to adapt and evolve, working alongside these intelligent systems. We’ll be doing more of what makes us uniquely human – problem-solving, strategic thinking, and creating.

The other day, my cousin who’s considering a leap into the tech world asked, “Should I be a Jack of all trades, or master one?” Good question, don’t you think? We’re moving towards an era where both generalists – skilled in multiple technologies, and specialists – experts in one field, will see significant demand. According to Stack Overflow’s 2020 Developer Survey[2], JavaScript is currently the most commonly used language, but Python and other specialized languages are gaining popularity rapidly. So, the trick is to have a good base and keep an eye out for the latest coding trends.
More Remote Work Opportunities
Anyone else still in their PJs? Just me? Well, with COVID-19 drastically changing the work landscape, remote work is becoming the new norm, especially in the software development field. LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence Index[3] shows that 79% of respondents in software and IT services say they can be effective when working remotely. So, we might not have to bid our comfy home offices goodbye anytime soon.
